Bones: Brought to the U.S. from Ireland, the instrument here developed a double fisted style of playing with one set of bones in each hand. In Ireland, they are played a single pair at a time, and are used in fast dance tunes for punctuation and a bit of extra rhythmic back-up besides the bodhrán.
Beginners: Learn the rudiments of the grip and execution of the slow triplets which form its basis.
Intermediate: Learn to speed up and control triplets at all speeds, learn to play quick short passages for punctuation, begin to learn repertoire, and when the bones are appropriate.
Advanced: Learn complete mastery of rhythms, learn to play 'duple', endings, and further study of
other excellent players, and the repertoire which is most appropriate to the bones. Session
etiquette. (spelling each other, duets with bodhrán players etc)
